The Crane School of Music

SUNY Potsdam

Teaching music within the community.

Through my music education coursework at Crane, I have had the opportunity to work with and teach various students from the Potsdam area and beyond, such as in my General Music Practicum and Teaching Beginning Instruments Practicum. I have worked with elementary school students at the SUNY Potsdam Childcare Center teaching general music lessons, as well as teaching private trombone lessons to elementary and middle school students in the Potsdam and Canton area.

Bringing music to life.

My music education at Crane has given me powerful insight into what it means to be a music educator. Creating experiences for students that are meaningful, relevant, and vibrant is my primary goal as an aspiring educator.

  • Through the pursuit of my degree, I have learned the skills needed to play every wind, string, and percussion instrument, as well as piano, and I learned how to effectively teach students of these instruments. In addition to my life as a brass player, I have a love for woodwinds and percussion, particularly bassoon, saxophone, and mallet percussion.

  • Both my coursework and extracurricular activities at Crane have given me the chance to work with my colleagues to develop my skills as an ensemble conductor, under the expert instruction of both Dr. William L. Lake Jr. and Dr. Brian Doyle.

  • A primary focus of my degree is that of educational theory and current understandings and practices in the field of music education. I am well versed in the areas of constructivist, generative, and student-centered teaching and learning.
